True, we are not in the city centre of Mantua, but in Buscoldo — a little town on the Padan plain with no traffic jams, traffic lights or stress. We are five minutes' drive from the centre, and in front of the B&B there is a bus stop with hourly connections to the city. It is worth knowing that Mantua has an unusual road network, shaped by its lakes and monitored by camera-controlled restricted traffic zones — a real trap for visiting drivers. You can simply leave your car in our free private parking, take the bus and visit Palazzo Te and Palazzo Ducale without risking a fine.
A Region Worth Slowing Down For
From Buscoldo you can explore far more than Mantua's historic centre. The village sits near the Oglio and Po rivers, on the way to Parma, and within easy reach of Sabbioneta, UNESCO World Heritage together with Mantua, and of the abbey town of San Benedetto Po. The local cuisine alone justifies the trip: homemade tortelli di zucca, agnoli in broth, risotto alla mantovana prepared with vialone nano rice and the local sausage — Mantua is one of the capitals of Italian pork specialities — and torta sbrisolona to finish. An excellent restaurant near the B&B serves all of the above.
The Province of Mantova's visitor-pass information, effective from 1 September 2026, lists Mantova Centro Storico: 24 hours for city-centre museums, €20 full price, excluding Palazzo Ducale. Mantova–Sabbioneta lasts 72 hours and costs €48 full price; Palazzo Ducale is included, with a supplement for the Camera degli Sposi. Both allow one entry per museum, with validity starting at first validation. Only the 72-hour pass includes unlimited transport in urban zones A+B and on weekday interurban line 17 between Mantova and Sabbioneta. Compare the museums you want to visit before choosing: the longer pass also suits an itinerary taking in both towns.
